Our Focus
What can we learn from the Paul’s charge to the Ephesians’ Elders?
- There is a fallacy in thinking that the Church should go back to house churches. Paul said he taught the Ephesians (20:20, cf. 2:46).
- There is a compelling confidence of a man who knows whose he is and who he is (20:24).
- The whole counsel God should be preached (20:27).
- There is a high call on the elders to lead the church (20:28).
- There is something precious about the honest emotions of godly men (20:36-38).
There is much more in this chapter. This is what jumped off the page today. My encouragements in light of the lessons above:
- Go to a local church and be involved in a small group.
- Know whose you are and who you are and live boldly for Christ.
- The whole counsel of God should be read as well as preached.
- If you are a male, it is a noble thing to desire church leadership (1 Timothy 3:1). If you never are an elder officially, you should live like one daily (Titus 1:5-9).
- When was the last time, men, you wept with your brothers?
